The Epic Transformation
Distribution of video entertainment is being transformed in India.
IDOS 2017 is happening at an opportune time. The industry and the regulator are on course to come to an agreement on what the tariffs for distribution
on pay TV, cable TV and DTH could be, even if it is being fought out in courts at the time of writing this agenda.
Most in the industry are betting that linear television will continue to be the main platform for
entertainment consumption, the efforts of OTT players and telcos to accelerate consumption on mobile devices notwithstanding.Hence, investments in continuing digitisation nationally are on.But, challenges too continue to plague the ecosystem.
What are these challenges?
Will DTH rule? Will FTA be at an advantage? Will OTT drive the agenda? Will cable TV reinvent itself while
delivering linear TV? Will Jio have a similar impact on cable TV and DTH when it launches as it did on
the telecom business? How will the cable ops and MSOs react? Will the number of players continue to be
the same or will there be further consolidation in distribution? What will the MIB's and TRAI's role be?
Is growth in profitability an elusive dream?
These and other such questions will sought to be answered at IDOS 2017.
